The Last Adam
Jesus referred to as the Second Adam and the Last Adam.
The First Adam was created by God in His own image. Genesis 1:26-27.
God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and he became a living soul. Genesis 2:7.
God created Eve to be Adam’a companion. Genesis 2:21-23.
Scripture separates humanity into two groups: those of Adam and those of Christ. Romans 5:12-21.
Before God’s grace is revealed in Christ, man is subject to Adam’s nature. I Corinthians 15:45-49. “As it is written, the First man Adam was made a living soul, the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.”
The First Adam succumed to Satan, the Second Adam rebuked and defied Satan after Satan tempted Him. Matthew 4:1-11.
Parallels between the First Adam and the Second Adam.
Adam was the first man created by God. Jesus was the first God-Man.
Adam sinned and doomed humanity. Jesus died once to redeem sinful man. Romans 5:17-19.
Death came through Adam. Resurrection from the dead came through Jesus. 1 Corinthians 15:21-22.
The first Adam was of the dust of the earth, Jesus the second Adam is the Lord from heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:47.
Adam in human form, Christ is the image of God. 11 Corinthians 4:4.
In Him dwelleth all the fullness of God bodily. Colossians 2:9.
The Second Adam’s mission begins with His becoming a man to redeem Adam’s race.
Redeeming Adam’s race. Colossians 1:12-22. He delivered us from the power of darkness…vs. 13. He is in the image of the invisible God…vs…15.
Emptied himself-made himself of no reputation, took the form of a servant…was made in the likeness of men…became obedient unto death…Philippians 2:6-11.
The Last Adam.
Paul Says that the “first man Adam was made a living soul” The “Last Adam was made a quickening spirit” (1 Corinthians 15:45). Jesus as the Last Adam is a life-giving spirit.
Jesus as the “Man in Heaven” (1 Corinthians 15:48), referring to Jesus after his resurrection and ascention to Heaven. By grace we are born again in Him as He reaches out to sinners who through faith in Him are made children of God.
As children of Adams race they become sons of God into eternity. “As man is born in image of the earthy, he shall also bear the image of the heavenly.” 1 Corinthians 15:49.
The Last Adam’s role in eternity is the resurrection of people of faith from the dead, and they will die no more. Luke 20:35-36.
