The Name Jesus
Below is the Message Audio followed by The typed notes.
Jesus in the New Testament means “The Lord is Salvation”. Jesus also means Deliverer.
Hebrew name and Biblical Aramaic name is Jeshua. Ezra 2:2, 2:6 & Nehemiah 3:9. Similar to Joshua in the Old Testament.
Joshua (Yehoshua in Hebrew) was Moses’ successor who led the Israelites into the Promised Land.
In Luke 1:31 an angel tells Mary to name her child Jesus: “And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.” Jesus was the name assigned by God the Father.
In Matthew 1:20-21 an angel tells Joseph to name the child Jesus. During Joseph's dream, the angel instructs Joseph: “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Jesus is the Savior of humanity.
Jesus referred to as the only Son of God. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
Jesus referred to as The Son of God and Savior of the world. “We have seen and testify that the Father has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world.” 1 John 4:14.
Jesus referred to as the head of the Church. “For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.” Ephesians 5:23.
Jesus died for sinners to redeem sinful man. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8.
After His resurrection Jesus went up to heaven. In due time, He will return. “And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? “This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:10-11.
Jesus in heaven is crowned with glory and honor at the right hand of God the Father. Hebrews 2:9: “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”
Jesus will come again and establish the Millennial Kingdom and Jesus will reign on earth for a thousand years after Satan is bound. Revelation 20:1-3: “And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled…”
Even the Millennium is not the end of all things. God’s people will live with Him forever in a renewed and restored world.
After the Millenial reign of Jesus Christ there will be a New Heaven and a new Earth. 2 Peter 3:13: “We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
