Serving the Lord
What does the Bible say about serving the Lord?
Joshua’s farewell address.
Joshua who had established the nation of Israel, gathered all the tribes of Israel for his farewell instructions before he died. Joshua 24:1
He reminds the people of what God had done for them. Joshua 24:13.
Joshua’s instruction: Now therefore fear bthe Lord, and serve Him in sincerity and in truth…vs. 14-15.
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15.
The people’s respose: … God forbid that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods. vs. 16
No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon. Matthew 6:24.
For the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45.
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. John 12:26.
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58.

Jesus’s statement after healing the man born blind, and his disciples asked him “has this man sinned or his parents that he was born blind?” Jesus answered “neither this man nor his parents, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. I must work the work of Him who sent me….” John 9:1-5.
God’s call and election expect diligent service. 2 Peter 1:10-11.
Work and labor for God is honored by Him. Hebrews 6:9-12.
How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! Hebrews 9:14.
Whatsoever you do, do it heartily as to the Lord. Colossians 3:23.
