There are many references in the Bible to God as as our Refuge in the Old and New Testament.

Psalm 5:11: But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. 

Psalm 16:8-11: I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure.

Psalm 18:2: The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 

Psalm 27:5: For in the day of trouble, he will keep me safe in the shelter of his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tent; he will set me high upon a rock. 

Psalm 32:7: You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

Psalm 34:8: Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! 

Psalm 36:7: How precious is your steadfast, unfailing love, O God! The people take refuge in the shadow of your wings. 

Psalm 46:1: God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalm 59:16: But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely. 

Psalm 62:8: Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart to him; for God is our refuge 

Psalm 91:1-2, 4-5, 9-16: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day.

Isaiah 25:4: For You have been a refuge for the helpless, a defense for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm, and a shade from the heat. 

Nahum 1:7: The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.

Matthew 11:28-30: Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

2 Thessalonians 3:3: But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

Hebrews 13:6: So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

1 Peter 5:7: Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.


There are also Bible referenced to God as our Rock in the Old and New Testament..

  1. For there is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any Rock like our God. I Samuel 2:2.

  2. The Lord is my Rock, and my Fortress, and my Deliverer. II Samuel 22:2.

  3. Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord…to the Rock of our salvation. Psalm 95:1.

  4. And I say unto thee that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church…Matthew 16:18.

  5. And did all drink…of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. I Corinthians 10:4.
