The Everlasting Covenant
Below is the Message Audio followed by the Typed Notes.
The first Everlasting Covenant stated in the Bible is after the Genesis Flood. Genesis 9:1,9,12-17.
12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember The Everlasting Covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
The Bow God refers to is the Rainbow which is God’s reminder for humanity that He will not again flood the world to punish sinful humanity.
The second Everlasting Covenant is the Abrahamic Covenant. Genesis 17:1-9&19.
1. and when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
2. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
The Abrahamic Covenent is an Everlasting Covenant because through his seed “All families of the earth will be blessed.” Genesis 12:3.
The entire chapter of Jeremiah 31 is God speaking about the covenant He has with His people. It tells the story of Israel’s departure from serving God, and their punishment for that sin when they were taken into captivity, and the promise of restoration and return to the Land of Promise to serve God, and preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ to redeem sinful man. Vs. 31-34.
The Eternal Covenant
The Eternal Covenant described in Hebrews 13:20-21 the closing prayer to God: “May the God of peace, who through the blood of the Eternal Covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep…”
Jesus referred to as “The Lamb Slain from the Foundation of the World.” God’s Eternal Plan of Redeeming Sinful Humanity. Revelation 13:8
