The City of God

There are many Bible verses that refer to the City of God. Also referred to as Mountain of the Lord, and Mount Zion.
Psalm 48:1-2 “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the City of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.”
Micah 4:7 “And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in Mount Zion from henceforth, even for evermore.”
Isaiah 2:2-3 “And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the Mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD.”
Joel 3:17 “So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my Holy Mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.”
Zechariah 8:3 “Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the Lord of hosts, the Holy Mountain.” This refers to the New Jerusalem in eternity where the people of God will dwell with God.
John 14:3-4 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.” After Christ rose from the dead, he appeared to his followers to promise them that He will come again to gather his followers to be with him in eternity in the City of God.
1 Peter 1:3-4 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.” Those that place their faith in Jesus Christ who rose from the dead are part of His enheretance and will dwell with Him in eternity.
Hebrews 11:10 “For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”
Hebrews 11:16 “But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.”
Hebrews 12:22 “But ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels in festal gathering.” The City of God is on Mount Zion and includes theNew Jerusalem.
Hebrews 13:14 “For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.” The people of faith have no continuing city but can look foreward to joining the City of God in eternity.
The City of God is referred to as Mount Zion and The Holy City in the End Times:
Revelation 14:1 “And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the Mount Zion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.”
Revelation 21:10 “And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.” This refers to the new City of God in eternity.
Revelation 16:1 “And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Zion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.” The hundred forty and four thousand refers to the Jewish people that come to faith in Christ- twelve thousand from each of the twelve tribes of Israel. These are the remnant Jews at the end of tribulation.
Revelation 21:3 “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.”
Revelation 21:10 “And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God”. This refers to the great city as the New Jerusalem that descends from heaven to the high mountain of God where the City of God will dwell for eternity.
Revelation 21:10-11 “And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious.” This refers to the great City of God as the Holy Jerusalem where people of faith will be dwelling with God in the City of God on the Mountain of God.
