History of God’s Written Word.m4a

The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

In His Word, God has provided for humanity the knowledge necessary for salvation. The Holy Scriptures are the written revelation of His will. They reveal the will of God from eternity past to the future, and how His will has been accomplished, and will be accomplished.

Bible verses of God declaring Himself to be God.

Isaiah 42:8 “Iam the Lord, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to graven images.”

Isaiah 43:13. “Before the day was, I am He; and there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?” Before the day refers to God’s existance before creation when time began.

Bible verses referring to God speaking directly to humans.

Genesis 1:27-28 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

God spoke directly to His Prophets who were God’s messengers.

Moses. Exodus 4:12 “Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.“

Jeremiah: 1:9. ‘Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.’

Jeremiah 37:2 “But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah”

Ezekiel 2:7-10 "You shall speak my words unto them whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious. But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee. And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein; And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.”

Key Bible verses referring to the written Word of God include:

  • 2 Timothy 3:16–17: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” This highlights that all Scripture is God-breathed and equips believers for good works.

  • Hebrews 4:12: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” This describes the word of God as living, active, and able to judge the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

  • 2 Peter 1:20–21: “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” This explains that Scripture originates from the Holy Spirit rather than human will.

  • Matthew 4:4: “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Spiritual life is based on the word that comes from the mouth of God.

  • Psalm 119:105: “Thy Word is a unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Refers to God's word as a lamp for a person's feet and a light on their path.
