Fear of the Lord
Fear of the Lord produces obedience through trust of God’s promise.
Abraham’s trial. Genesis 22:1-3 & 6-10. The Angel of the Lord says to Abraham “ I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son from Me.” Genesis 22:12-13.
Israelites in Egypt were enslaved. Pharoah commanded the midwives to kill each son that is born. The midwives feard God and spared the sons. Exodus 1:15-17&20-21.
Israel’s deliverance from Egyptian slavery. “ Israel saw that great work which the Lord did upon the Egyptians, and the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord and his servant Moses. Exodus 14:29-31.
God tells Moses to instruct the children of Israel to “hear God’s words and learn to fear Him all the days they shall live upon the earth…and teach their children.” Deutronomy 4:9-10.
Source of wisdom and understanding. Job 28:12&28. “Where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understandimg?” “The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding.”
Law of the Lord is perfect. Fear of the Lord is enduring…more to be desired than gold. Psalm 19:7-11.
Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom. Fools despise wisdom. Proverbs 1:7.
Fear of the Lord prolongeth days, but the years of the wicked will be shortened. Proverbs 10:27.
Fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. Proverbs 14:27.
Fear of the Lord tendeth to life, and he that hath it shall abide satisfied:he shall not be visited with evil. Proverbs 19:23.
By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honor and life. Proverbs 22:4.
Fearing God and keeping His commandments is the duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14.
