Key Bible Verses in the Book of Ecclesiastes.
Ch. 1:1 “The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.” This was very probably Solomon.
8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.
Chapter 2:9-11 So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me. And whatsoever my eyes desired I kept not from them. I did not withhold my heart from pleasure…this I considered all my activities…that I had done…and behold all was vanity and striving after wind.
16 …The wise man and the fool alike die.
19 …for the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same.
Ch. 4:2-3 So I congratulated the dead who are already dead more than the living…but better off than both of them is the one who has never existed who has never seen the evil activity that is done under the sun.
Ch. 7:29 Behold I have found only this, that God made men upright but they have sought out many devices
Ch. 8:13 But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.”
Ch. 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
Ch. 12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
Many Bible scholars believe that Ecclesiastes is a unique book in the Bible because it takes a somewhat pessimistic view of life. The author who many believed to be King Solomon, examines the nature of life and the world around him and comes to the final summary Ch. 12:13 “The conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”
