Choose whom you will serve
JOSHUA’S FAREWELL ADDRESS. Joshua chapter 24.
Joshua who led the children of Israel into the promised land gives his farewell & challenge to the Israelites.
He gathered all the Tribes of Israel, the Elders, Judges & Officers.
They presented themselves before God. vs. 1.
He reminds the tribes of Israel of God calling and blessing them from their father Abraham to Isaac & Jacob. vs.2-4.
How God delivered them from slavery in Egypt to the land of promise and defeated their enemies.
God sent Moses & Aaron to lead them. vs. 5.
They delivered from slavery in Egypt vs. 6-7.
He brought them to the land of promise. vs. 8-11 & 13.
Now therefore fear the Lord and seve him in sincerity and in truth and put away the gods which your fathers served and serve the Lord. vs. 14-15.
The people answered and said God forbid that we should forsake the Lord & serve other gods. vs. 16-18
For the Lord delivered us and our fathers out of Egypt.
He drove away our enemies.
We will therefore serve the Lord for He is our God. vs. 18.
Joshua’s final warning and instruction. vs. 20-24.
If ye forsake the Lord and serve other gods God will turn against you…therefore put away the strange gods. vs. vs. 20-23.
The people said…the Lord our God we will serve…vs. 24.
Joshuas final response. vs.25-28
So Joshua made a covenant with the people, and set up a Statue and an ordinance. vs. 25.
Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God. vs. 26.
The stone statue to be a witness so that they will not deny their God. vs 27.
Joshua then died being an hundred & ten years old. vs.29.
